Dear Uniden- I'm writing this letter to inform you of my dissatisfaction with a Uniden Phone. I purchased a Uniden TRU8885-2 phone in August 2005. In December of 2005 (less than 4 months!) it stopped working. The base would only display "Welcome. Please wait..." and nothing more. I shipped the phone to be replaced and was informed that "[the unit] was determined to be a refurbished product not certified by Uniden America Corporation. Unfortunately, this is not covered under the manufacturer's warranty.". This is very disturbing and frustrating. Allow me to enumerate why:
If you refuse to replace the phone, then in good conscience, you force me to warn others away from your products just as I should have been warned away. To that end I will never buy a Uniden product. I will inform family, friends, coworkers and others via my blog of this situation. Hopefully this would be one of the first hits in Google so that other consumers understand Uniden's stance on product quality and customer service. In other words, I don't want others to make the same mistake I did. Please kindly resolve this matter as soon as possible by sending me a new, reliable phone that will renew my faith in Uniden. Sincerely, Matt Harrison
As you can tell, I was pretty annoyed with the phone. I recieved a form letter stating that they will replace the base for $60. Andrea has since replaced the phone with a $40 model (non-Uniden). It is currently serving as well or better than the Uniden and we made sure that it has a warrantee. If you find this post informative, please bookmark it (digg, delicious, furl, stumbleupon, etc), trackback to it, or feel free to email links (or copies of it) or plot it out on gmaps and mash it up. Anyone out in the blogosphere been able to make a difference in customer service with their blog? I'd love it if Uniden got word of my blog again. Help me make it happen.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I also purchased a brand new uniden
phone. The same exact phone with 3 handsets. I was in love with the phone
and it's features at first. However less than 6 months I was unable to
make calls or receive. I would have to constantly unplug the phone wire
from the jack box on wall in order to make and receive calls every time I
had used the phone. It is rediculous. I contacted Uniden via internet and
they gave me some instructions to reset... stated to hold the do not
disturb while plugging in the main power source until it beeped. To NO
AVAIL - this did NOT WORK!!!!! They stated I would have to send phone in
for repair. Screw them - I should have trusted my gut after another uniden
failed, but at least that one lasted almost a year. However, I was taken
by the many features and three handsets. I purchased phone from COSTCO. I
attempted to call Uniden SEVERAL times and each time I am on hold far too
long. I have yet to reach a representatie by phone. I am very
dissatisfied and, as you, will WARN all friends, coworker, internet
community, etc NOT TO WASTE TIME or MONEY on UNIDEN PHONES!!!! Again,
thank you for sharing.
I am also using Uniden phone of differnet model. I have been pretty
satisfied with it. At one time, the phone stopped working, but later I
realized that it is due to the moisture from a water boiler that I put next
to the phone base. After I moved my phone base far away from the boiler
and let dry for a few days, the phone started to work like new. So, do
check the neighboring environment of your phone when you troubleshoot your
Uniden phone, or even any home appliances.
Can anyone out there tell me how to take my Uniden phone off Do Not
Disturb? I pressed something accidentally and now have no ring. I'm
desperate. Nothing in the manual mentions this feature. NOTHING! And,
there's no help online. The company's support system is away for the
holiday weekend. Thanks!
This site may help you with question on the phone.
I've also had a terrible experience with Uniden customer support concerning
an (expensive) VHF radio that failed after 2 months. Had to remove it and
ship it back at my expense, and have heard nothing from them since. Would
neve buy another uniden product.
I am sorry to hear of your bad experience with Uiden. I have had one of
their TRU8885 systems for several years and have truly enjoyed it. Our
problem just started last night that the earpiece on the main handset
failed; the speaker works - or plug a earpiece in to hear as the callers
can hear me I just couldn't hear them on the handset to my ear. Then
another unit has started saying low battery. I called Uiden and was
informed that the replacement models WILL NOT fit the base unit so I would
have to try to re-register the only handset working properly to the base
and use the replacement model separately. After talking with customer
service I was very disappointed with their solution. Guess I will be
shopping for another brand and hope the features work as well as this one
has the past six years!
